From green projects to better services: how the UN worked in Serbia in 2025

Belgrade, 22 April 2026 – From green investments to more accessible services, 2025 marked a year of tangible results across Serbia, as the United Nations and its partners moved from policy commitments to practical delivery on the ground.

These results are presented in the United Nations Serbia 2025 Results Report,  marking the final year of the current five-year cooperation cycle between the United Nations and the Government of Serbia.

The report brings together the work of 18 UN entities, implemented in partnership with national institutions, local governments and development partners, across three priority areas: green transition and climate action, human capital development, and human rights, rule of law and gender equality.

In 2025, progress continued across all three areas — from advancing circular economy investments and local environmental action, to expanding access to education, health and social services, and strengthening protection and inclusion for vulnerable groups.

Efforts also focused on improving how different parts of the system work together in practice — making services more accessible and better connected at local level.

“What matters at this stage is not only what has been delivered, but how. Over the past five years, we have seen that progress comes from sustained cooperation — between institutions, communities and partners — and from staying focused on results that are relevant to people’s lives,” said Matilde Mordt, UN Resident Coordinator in Serbia.

“As we close this cycle, the priority is to carry forward what works — and to build on these results in the next phase of cooperation.”

The report underscores the role of long-term partnerships in addressing complex development challenges and provides a foundation for the next phase of cooperation.
